According to Lieutenant General Vladimir Shulikov, deputy airborne commander on armament, Russia's airborne forces will only get 20 BMD-3s and several BMD-3-based vehicles in 2002. Obsolete vehicles, primarily BMD-1s, will be replaced with IFVs and APCs five times cheaper than the new BMD-3, which will be rebuilt or redistributed from other units.- Adam Geibel
