The Swiss Army has ordered 120 new Eagle-III artillery observer vehicles from Mowag. The Eagle is a modified version of the Hummer truck used by the US Army. These have a new armored body, GPS navigation, overpressure chemical-biological-nuclear protection system, and a rooftop-mounted day-night observation system. The computerized system would allow the vehicle to accurately locate a target 7 kilometers away within 30 seconds of coming to a halt, and to drive off at high speed 15 seconds after locking in the target. The Swiss previously ordered 175 Eagle-II recon vehicles and operate 154 Eagle-I recon vehicles.--Stephen V Cole
