Australia had decided to ground its existing aerial refueling tankers (based on Boeing-707s) and buy new ones, assuming that new planes would be cheaper than fixing and flying the 707s. Turns out, it's cheaper to fix and fly the 707s, which is what Australia will do. Some of the planes will be sent to Afghanistan to support US strike aircraft. --Stephen V Cole
