Qatar has become a major U.S. base in the Persian Gulf. The two most important facilities in Qatar are Camp As-Sayliyah, where equipment for a 5,000 man armored brigade are stored and maintained. Just fly in the troops (carrying only their personal gear and rifles) and you have a brigade ready to fight. Near the main airport in Qatar is Camp Snoopy, that receives supplies for units through out the Gulf. Some 900 U.S. troops work here, including an army Veterinary detachment that looks after the bomb detection dogs and does food safety inspections for U.S. bases in the region.
