The Air Force is testing its new Litening infrared and laser-targeting pods in combat in Afghanistan. These pods, the latest design, are being tested by older F-16s from National Guard units. The pods were rushed into service because the old Lantirn pods had increasing problems with reliability due to their heavy prior use.--Stephen V Cole
