Taiwan has announced that it has upgraded and expanded its secret Information Warfare Task Force to battalion level. Taiwan reports that it has 1,000 computer viruses ready to launch an attack on mainland China if war breaks out. Japan recently established an anti-terrorist cyberwar unit, and China has unveiled cyberwar units it insists are defensive. There have long been reports of cyber attacks from mainland China against Taiwan, one of which reportedly shut down the Automatic Teller Machine system for several days.--Stephen V Cole
