Information Warfare: April 9, 2004

Archives

April Fools Day always brings forth a few stunts that convince many more people than they fool. The U.S. Navy got hit by one this year, in the form of an official looking email that was passed around starting April 1st. The false message stated that all Navy promotions were to be suspended for the current year due to lack of funding as a result of  higher than expected Iraq war costs. The Navy was, of course unaware of this hoax, until personnel offices started to get queries from sailors worried about promotions they were due to receive. The Navy was since been forced to issue official messages stating that; All promotions and advancements are proceeding normally this year. And that The message is a hoax. There is absolutely no truth behind it. It will take a while before all those hoaxed sailors are convinced.
