The Blair government plans to sell off 75% of Britain's defense labs in 2001, raising $380 million at the cost of paying more than that over the next decade for what the government now owns. The remaining quarter of the Defense Research and Evaluation Agency, with the most secret elements and 12,000 workers, will be retained by the government.--Stephen V Cole
