In India's northeast, fighting between rival rebel groups left at least four tribesmen dead. One group, the NDFB, is trying to break the ceasefire the BLT had negotiated with the government in early 2000.

About a thousand pro-Taliban Pakistani gunmen continue to be held prisoner in Afghanistan. About a thousand have been released, and a dozen or so are still set free each week. 

Artillery fire across the Line of Control left a Pakistani civilian dead. 

Religious riots in Gujarat left two more dead. The police continue to break up fights between Hindu and Moslem activists.
