 Pakistani president Musharraf said that he would not, as promised, give up his other job, as head of the armed forces. Apparently Musharraf does not trust the generals to remain loyal, without his constant supervision. Musharraf has also created good will within the military by obtaining billions of dollars of modern weapons and military equipment from the United States.

Indian Maoist rebels killed four people in Patna, in retaliation for the recent killing of a Maoist leader.
