A new head of the army, general Ryamizard Wahid, has been appointed. Wahid has publicly denounced rebels in Aceh and Papua. The army, especially in Aceh, has been aggressive and brutal in going after rebels (or suspected rebels, who often aren't.) General Wahid appears to back this approach.
