: 10.0pt"> Palestinians thought they could keep the Israelis out of Gaza by arming many civilians and fortifying houses and building roadblocks. But the Israelis refused to play a street fighting game and instead carried out carefully planned raids on parts of Gaza, being careful to avoid any concentrations of Palestinian fighters.
