Former president Estrada was arrested on corruption charges. This was the first time this had happened. Estrada was forced from office in January because of corruption charges. On Basilan, fourteen militiamen and several Abu Sayyaf rebels were killed in a battle. The rebels had recently fled from Jolo island.
