: Old news that's news once again. The Sudanese government (Khartoum) accused Uganda of supplying weapons to the SPLA. The charges got very specific, so there's a good chance there's some substance to the claims. Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismail said Uganda is using "unregistered NGOs" (non-governmental organizations who are operating in Sudan without Sudan government approval) to bring arms into southern Sudan. He also said: "Uganda implements the United States' strategy in the region." Sudan may also be worried about the incoming Bush Administration. Many Republicans, particularly conservative U.S. Christians, have close ties with the African rebels. Many NGOs operating in south Sudan have ties to religious organizations. Sudan may fear a Bush administration would consider increasing aid to the SPLA and other rebel organizations.
