Violence continues throughout Darfur, with the African Union monitoring force ineffective in stopping raids and looting by bandits and pro-government vigilantes. Famine also looms, with a food shortage made worse by the UNs inability to raise sufficient money to feed everyone. Arab nations in the UN continue to block any action that implies that the Sudanese government is at fault. Meanwhile, a third of Darfur's six million people remain in refugee camps, and the death toll is thought to have gone over 100,000. No one really knows, because in the vast landscape of Darfur, no one has been able to count all the dead bodies.
